Explain Code Line by Line
Good for code you inherited, a snippet from a forum, or a command you are about to run. It explains at your level and flags anything risky.
Works with Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini3 fields
Explain this Bash code to a beginner, line by line: ``` find . -name "*.log" -mtime +7 -delete ``` Then: - say what it does overall in one sentence, - point out anything that could go wrong or be dangerous, - show a safer version if there is one.
Everything you type stays in your browser. Remove passwords, keys and personal data before pasting anything into an AI tool.
Why this prompt is written this way
- Your level. The same code needs a different explanation for a beginner and for an expert.
- Danger check. Especially for shell commands, asking 'what could go wrong' catches destructive surprises.
- Safer version. You get something you can run with confidence, not just an explanation.
Example answer
Illustrative and shortened, to show the shape of a good answer. Real answers vary by model.
find . : search from the current folder. -name "*.log" : only files ending in .log. -mtime +7 : changed more than 7 days ago. -delete : deletes them, with no undo. Safer: run without -delete first to see the list.
Tips
- For shell commands, always ask for the dry-run version first.
- Ask follow-up questions about any line that is still unclear.
How to use it
- Replace the example values with your own. The prompt on the right updates as you type.
